“Nowadays, I am afraid to be happy. I don’t know y ppl dnt want to look at me ven I’m happy in ma life (sic). Every moment in my life is gng sooo worst (sic),” wrote 19-year-old K. Sai Durga Mounika on her WhatsApp status before hanging herself to death on Wednesday.

Sai Durga Mounika, a final year engineering student, committed suicide at her residence in Dundigal. Her family members claimed that she was depressed due to family issues, which forced her to take this extreme step.

Sources said that she committed suicide after her mother admonished her over her excessive use of smart phones and spending time on social media.

According to the police, Sai Durga was staying at her maternal uncle’s house along with her mother and brother in Suraram under the Dundigal police station. Her father Chandrashekar left them a decade ago.

On Wednesday afternoon, she had an argument with her mother over a gold chain and a ring. After the argument, when her mother and brother went out, she hanged herself to death.

When her family members returned late in the evening, they rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared brought dead.

“According to her family, she was sensitive and often threatened them of committing suicide over petty issues. On Wednesday, her mother questioned her about the gold jewellery, due to which she felt offended and took this extreme step,” said Mr M. Pavan from the Dundigal police station.

“We will recover her mobile phone and verify her social media posts. Based on the evidence, the probe will proceed.” added the SI.

ON WEDNESDAY, the victim’s mother questioned her about her gold jewellery, due to which she felt offended and took this extreme step, said the police.
