Indian boys lose, out of Fifa event

-

New Delhi, Oct. 12: India lost their third successive match — a 0-4 defeat to Ghana on Thursday — to bow out of the Fifa U-17 World Cup here.

The hosts were put under immense pressure by goals from E. Ayiah in the 43rd and 52nd minutes before R. Danso and E. Toku struck in the 86th and 87th minutes respectively to shut the doors the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Meanwhile, Giovanni Bogado and Fernando Cardozo scored late first half goals as Paraguay beat Turkey 3-1 in a Group ‘B’ game at D.Y. Patil stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Antonio Galeano scored in the second half to cap the thumping win for Gustavo Morinigo’s side. Kerem Kesgin scored a consolation goal in injury time. The South Americans topped the group with all nine points on offer. Turkey finished fourth in Group ‘B’ with one point and became the first to be ousted from the tournament.

Turkey needed an inspired performance but they had an awful start. Defender Emirhan Civelek tripped Blas Armoa in the box and referee immediately pointed to the spot. However, Anibal Vega, who scored a brace for Paraguay against New Zealand, failed to convert as lanky Turkish goalkeeper Berke Ozer made an excellent save in the second minute.

Paraguay who were already through to the round of 16 made as many as seven changes in starting XI, resting main forwards Leonardo Sanchez and Alan Rodriguez.
