COMMERCIALS ON AIR

-

BOMBAY, NOV. 1. The first ever commercial advertisement broadcasts from All India Radio will go on the air at 6.45 pm tomorrow after the inauguration of the Commercial Broadcasting Service by Maharashtra Chief Minister V.P. Naik at a special function here.

The commercial broadcasts, which have been fitted into Vividh Bharati programme, will be relayed by Bombay, Poona and Nagpur stations of All India Radio.

The Commercial Broadcasting Service has been launched as a pilot proj- ect and many be expanded later after gaining experience in the operation to the service. A spokesman of the CBS told UNI that commercial broadcasts would last a total of 75 minutes per day or 10 per cent of the whole Vividh Bharati programme.

The spokesman explained that the advertisements would be broadcast without interrupting a continuing music or other programme. In other words, advertising programmes would be broadcast during natural breaks of the regular programmes. Devotional music would not be interrupted for the commercial programme and every break would last about two minutes or more depending upon the programme.

The main difference between Radio Ceylon and other commercial broadcast and those of AIR would be that the interruption for advertising would be at longer intervals ranging between 10 and 20 minutes. In other respects, the general pattern would be the same as in other countries.
