SCB to shell out `3.75 cr to fix damaged roads
After much public outcry over rain-battered roads, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is gearing up to get them back in shape.
Authorities have identified damaged stretches on main roads and internal roads in various colonies in eight wards and finalised tenders to begin the repair work.
The board will spend nearly `3.75 crore to repair 36 identified stretches of bad roads. The board expects to complete the work in two to three months.
According to an engineering wing official, it was for the first time in several years they are facing a big challenge regarding roads.
“Hyderabad witnessed more rainfall than normal. We could not get the time to do proper repairs. Road damage is generally reported from a few places but this time there were complaints from all the eight wards,” he said. Work will be taken up on priority in West Marredpally and Hasmathpet, he said.
Asked about this, Prof. N.L.N.Reddy, an SCB resident, said motorists were facing difficulty in travelling at the Tadbund signal and Centre Point cafe to Bapuji Nagar because of damaged roads.
“I had complained about it in the past but there was no proper response. I hope the SCB ends our road miseries at the earliest,” he said.
Mr Hemanth Sharma from Text Book Colony was unhappy at the way contractors were digging up roads in colonies to lay water supply pipelines, and then leaving them in a shambles.
“This has damaged many internal roads in colonies,” he said and asked the SCB to rein in such contractors and restore the roads.
