The SHE Team had apprehended 363 minors and 1,101 adults for stalking (32 per cent), passing lewd remarks (20 per cent), harassment over phone (20 per cent) and inappropriate touching (3 per cent).

The age group of the accused ranges from 21 to 40 years who constitute 44 per cent, while people in the age group of 18 to 20 years account for 28 per cent.

ACP Kavitha said that the accused persons are counselled in the presence of their parents.

“It springs from our patriarchal society where a child grows up looking at his mother and how she is treated by the father. The movie culture also adds up. It is seen as a sign of heroic act to harass women and girls,” said the ACP.

According to Dr Diana Monteiro, counselling psychologist, “It is the responsibility of parents to make the gender equality aware from the beginning.” The police on Monday unearthed two powerful landmines on the VajeduBhadrachalam Highway which were allegedly placed by the Maoists.

The bomb squad was able to defuse the explosive. This is the third incident in the past one year involving explosives planted by the Maoists.

Rahul Hegde, Eturnagaram ASP, said that the landmines were discovered during a routine checking by the ROP (road opening party) near a culvert, about 17 km from Venkatapuram. The ROP found wires going through the earth and suspected landmines.

The ASP headed the operation with the help of bomb squads. They found about 25kg of explosive placed in two metal boxes.
