Fee-regulatory body in districts

THE COMMITTEE had been collecting information for two years and would give its final recommendations later this month.

All districts will have feere gulatory committees, Deputy Chief Minister and education minister Kadiam Srihari told the Legislative Council on Monday.

Replying to questions by Opposition MLCs N. Ramchander Rao, Mohammad Ali Shabbir and T. Santosh Kumar, he said a committee headed by Prof T. Tirupathi Rao, former vice-chancellor of Osmania University, was looking to examine regulation of fees in private recognised unaided educational institutions.

He said the committee had conducted several meetings with the parents associations and school managements on the issue. The committee had been collecting information for two years and would give its final recommendations later this month.

Mentioning the notices issued to 146 junior colleges on Sunday, Mr Srihari advised parents not to rush for admissions as the government would soon come out with a list of permitted educational institutions.

“Don’t spend lakhs of rupees going by the brand name. Enquire about the facilities and faculty before taking admissions and consult local educational officer,” Mr Srihari said.

He said the government had decided to do away with a rule formulated in 2004, which had frozen recruitment in aided institutions.
