Positive impact on fight against black money: BJP

State BJP president Dr K. Laxman said when many nations worldwide had endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisa­tion of highvalue currency notes, the Congress and Communists were criticisin­g it.

Participat­ing in an ‘anti-black money day’ to mark the first anniversar­y of demonetisa­tion, Dr Laxman said it was part of a drive to eradicate black money mentioned the BJP’s 2014 manifesto.

He said as the government had brought in legislatio­n to seize benami properties, prevent black marketing and money laundering to weed out black money.

He said `1.79 lakh crore of suspected black money had returned to the banks.

He called upon the BJP to campaign for cashless transactio­ns so that black money finds no place in the system.

Former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the Congress’ opposition to eradicatin­g black money would expose them to the wrath of the people.

BJP city president and party MLC N. Ramachandr­a Rao questioned the ethical and moral grounds on which the Congress was opposing Mr Modi’s decision.
