DRONES USED TO CURB OPEN DEFECATION

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Karimnagar police has scored a first by using drone cameras to curb open defecation.

Since Sunday, police drones have been taking pictures of people relieving themselves on the bund or slopes of the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) which provides drinking water for Karimnagar, Warangal, Siddipet and Sircilla districts. Fourteen people have been caught so far.

No cases have been booked against them. The police are attempting to first create awareness among the people about the harm that open defecation can do.

Most of those who defecate in the open at LMD are residents of Sapthagiri and Padmanagar colonies, situated close by. Some of them said they don’t have latrines in their houses.

Karimnagar police commissioner V.B. Kamalasan Reddy participated in a 5 km walk at LMD and organised a cultural programme on Sunday to encourage visitors to the area.

Mr Reddy said open defecation was polluting the LMD.
