Kohli slams century but Test ends in draw

-

Kolkata, Nov. 20: The Sri Lankans were seen engaged in a time wasting tactics as their physio was coming on to the ground on a few occasions while wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella got under the skin of Virat Kohli & Co. by taking his own sweet time while facing fast bowler Mohammed Shami.

First, Dickwella and skipper Dinesh Chandimal had a long animated chat among them in a bid to waste time which was objected by R. Ashwin. Umpire Nigel Llong too intervened in the matter and then skipper Kohli had a chat with the umpires.

The second incident happened in the 19th over as Dickwella took a lot of time to take the strike. He even stopped Shami as he was run in. This riled up Shami as he walked towards Dickwella in anger. Umpire Llong had to call Kohli to mediate when the matters seemed to turn ugly.

Terming it a tricky affair, KL Rahul did not blame their rivals and said they would have done the same under a similar circumstance.

“That’s how the game is played. Nobody wants to lose game. These are tricks of the trade and are used by every team. Nothing unfair about it. As a team, you try to win you try to push in as many overs you can but that’s how it’s played. You can’t really complain. Like I said we could have made a match if we got about five-six more overs. It was exciting for us,” said Rahul.

Sri Lanka coach Nic Pothas said the high-intensity match was a good advertisement for Test cricket. — Agencies
