Lakshya, Tanishq emerge champions

India’s Lakshya Sen and Tanishqa Mamilla took their winning graphs to the top most point after grabbing titles in the men’s and women’s sections respective­ly while the pair of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla clinched the men’s doubles trophy at the India Internatio­nal Series badminton championsh­ip that concluded at the Pullela Gopichand Academy here on Sunday.

In the men’s singles final, fourth seeded Lakshya defeated Yee Han Chong of Malaysia in a thriller that was decided by a 21-15, 17-21, 21-17 scoreline to come out flying colours.

In the women’s singles final, Tanishq Momilla Palli carved out a come-frombehind victory over Shikha Gautam after losing the first game 17-21. In the second game, both the Indian girls were locked in a tough fight, however Tanishq fetched crucial points to take the match into the decider which she won 21-18.

Meanwhile in the men’s doubles final, Indian pair of Arun George and Sanyam Shukla downed Francis Alwin & K. Nandagopal duo 21-19, 21-15 to emerge winners.

Also, the Malaysian pair of Tang Jie Chen & Liu Ying Goh took top honours in mixed doubles by defeating Rohan Kapoor & Kuho Garg 21-19, 21-13.

THE RESULTS Men’s singles final: Lakshya Sen (4, IND) bt Yee Han Chong (MAL) 2115, 17-21, 21-17.

Women’s singles final: Tanishq Mamilla Palli (IND) bt Shikha Gautam (IND) 1721, 22-20, 21-18.

Men’s doubles final: Arun George/ Sanyam Shukla (3, IND) bt Francis Alwin/ K. Nandagopal (8, IND) 21-19, 21-15.

Women’s doubles final: Putri Sari Dewi Citra/ Yujia Jin (2, SPE) bt Jee Lynn Lim/ Zhen Yap (MAL) 2022, 21-9, 21-13.

Mixed doubles final: Tang Jie Chen/ Liu Ying Goh (5, MAL) bt Rohan Kapoor/ Kuhoo Garg (Ind, 8) 21-19, 21-13.
