Lack of RTA staff affects other wings

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, NOV. 26

While motorists are suffering at RTA offices in getting services done due to lack of staff and incharge unit heads bound to the duties with other offices, government is also suffering a lot in many aspects.

An official from the revenue department said District Transport Officers’ (DTOs) role was very important in providing and procuring vehicles for various schemes and programmes.

“During the Pulse Polio campaign, the RTOs and DTOs provide vehicles to the health department. Similarly, they provide vehicles for examinations held by the TSPSC, UPSC, SSC, Intermediate Board and universities. Even for the recent programme of the distribution of sheep in rural areas, the transport department arranged vehicles for the revenue and animal husbandry departments,” the official said.

Besides, the official said, during road safety meetings and other major meetings, the presence of DTOs is essential. In a few districts, due to lack of full-fledged DTOs, the revenue and other departments are holding the meetings without their presence.

“Recruitments from Group-II to Group-I ranks is the only solution. Majority incharge officials who are travelling long distance are becoming sick due to the stress but are working to avoid pendency,” he said.

He said that after the formation of the new districts, the state had downgraded the DTO post in nine districts with MVIs.
