U-16 CRICKET Rohan, Trishank, Vasu top bowlers

T. Rohan and Trishank Gupta took five wickets each to bowl Hyderabad to a thumping win over Goa in their Vijay Merchant Trophy Under 16 league match at the Gymkhana ground on Thursday.

Right-arm seamer Rohan returned with figures of 5 for 22 while leg-spinner Trishank got 5 for 33 as Goa were all out for a mere 120 in their second innings to hand Hyderabad an innings and 57-run victory on the third and final day. The hosts snatched seven points for their super show.

In another match, left-arm spinner Vasu took 5 for 33 but Andhra could not quite finish off Karnataka, which hung on at 165 for 8 while following on to salvage a point.

After Andhra had piled a massive 444, Vasu ran through the Karnataka lineup to bowl them out for a paltry 139 and return with brilliant figures of 21.1-1133-5.

Following on, Karnataka were in deep trouble in the second innings as well with wickets falling all around. However, they staved off embarrassm­ent by just about hanging on.

The match between Tamil Nadu and Kerala too ended in a draw with TN taking three points for the first innings lead after forcing Kerala to follow-on and taking three wickets. At ECIL Grounds: Andhra 444 drew with Karnataka 139 in 65.1 overs (Vasu 5/33 — 21.111-33-5, Akshay Papasani 2/18) & following on 165 for 8 in 75 overs (Amod S Kaluve 31, Akshan Rao 32, Chinmay N. A. 33, K. Nithish Kumar Reddy 2/24, Akshay Papasani 2/36, Vasu 2/42). Points: Andhra-3, Karnataka-1.

At NFC Grounds: Tamil Nadu 409 in 131.2 overs (R. Vimal Kumar 26, Manav Parakh 66, A. Ranjan 33, Nirmal Jaimon 2/65) drew with Kerala 254 in 91.3 overs (Akshay T. K. 59, Varu Nayanar 38, Aditya Geethan 3/43, Nirmal Kumar 4/52) & following on 109 for 3 in 36 overs (Albin Binu 56 n.o, Varun 11 n.o). Points: Tamil Nadu-3, Kerala-1.
