SLUM-DWELLERS TO GET 2BHK TITLE PAPERS

-

In order to persuade slum-dwellers to allow acquisition of their properties, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is contemplating issuing possession certificates to slum-dwellers for the TS government’s flagship double-bedroom housing project.

The plan is for the civic body to acquire property or land occupied by the slum with immediate effect. But, slum-dwellers will have to wait until the 2BHK project is completed before moving in. To give them some assurance that they will get possession of their new homes, the civic body is offering the possession certificate in advance

However, the slumdweller has to reside in a rented property while the housing is constructed, and the GHMC will not provide any rehabilitation or relief after the acquisition.

A GHMC officer on condition of anonymity said that the GHMC is facing financial crisis, and so is planning to give 2BHK houses to slumdwellers who lose land or property for construction of the 2BHK houses in notified slums. There are around 1,500 notified slums in the city. He said that TS wants to build houses in the city and accommodate the slumdwellers too instead of displacing them to the outskirts.

He said that the GHMC will issue an authorised occupancy certificate, but will not consider any relief or rehabilitation, and that the beneficiaries will have to live in rented houses for a period of eight months to one year until the 2BHK project is completed in their slum.

The official said that 650 acres is required for the project.
