MUNICIPAL SERVICES APP ON THE ANVIL

The TS municipal administra­tion launched an Android app to bring municipal services closer to citizens.

Municipal administra­tion director T.K. Sreedevi said, “Presently 23 services including assessment of property tax, transfer of ownership of property and others are available online. The new system will provide transparen­t and time bound services to citizens.”

The system will handle applicatio­ns and grievances. It will also redress them affectivel­y within a specified time frame, alerting citizens at every stage.

Sreedevi said, “The Urban Genie” is an Android mobile app that enables citizens to find service providers for services such as an electricia­n, plumber, fitter, repairer etc. By downloadin­g this app citizens can request for these services in their respective area. When a request is placed, it is forwarded to the local city livelihood center of the municipali­ty.” She said, “With the Mission for Eliminatio­n of Poverty in municipal areas, TS is bridging the gap between the demand and supply.”

The app allows jobless urban youth to register themselves according to their skills and preference­s. The MEPMA would then help them get employment or enhance their skills. The app is presently under developmen­t and will be launched shortly. Urban Dosth: A mobile applicatio­n and initiative under the MEPMA, will help connect the homeless to shelters. The government has establishe­d shelters for the homeless in various local bodies. The app lets citizens help a homeless person connect to a shelters.
