Telugu meet sideshow: TS delicacies don’t hurt purse

- MAHESH AVADHUTHA I DC HYDERABAD, DEC.18

The food exhibition organised at the LB Stadium as part of the World Telugu Conference saw popular foodstuffs being sold for a fraction of the price.

Snacks, tiffins, curries, fries, biryanis, kababs and millet dishes were priced at just under `100 at the 60-odd stalls including some from popular hotels including Paradise, Taj Mahal, Suprabhat and Pakwan. Space was given for shop owners who make Bandaru Ladoo, Bamboo Chicken etc.

The organiser, Telangana State Hotels Association gave a rural backdrop to each stall. Cultural shows were also organised.

Mr S. Venkat Reddy and Ashok Reddy of the association said the low rates were proving to be a big draw.

“Visitors were ordering items from many stalls. In restaurants the bill would have run into the thousands. By spending a few hundred rupees here, families can taste all those items at the exhibition,” they said.

Mr Pruthvi Raj, a visitor, could not believe fish and prawns biryani were served for `100 each; they cost `300 outside.

Asked how they could convince hoteliers to keep prices low, Mr Venkat Reddy said they impressed upon fellow members to serve tasty items at lower costs, even if not in large portions

“Hoteliers are not looking at the commercial aspect. Our objective is to offer TS and Hyderabadi delicacies,” Mr Ashok Reddy said.
