FLYOVER WORK MAKES HEADWAY

-

Construction of three skyways on the city outskirts and a flyover in the city to decongest traffic has made a headway.

The state government on Thursday submitted DPRs (detailed project reports) worth `4,700 crore for the Centre’s approval.

The Centre will convene a meeting of officials from the roads and buildings department in January to finalise the DPRs. “The DPRs have been finalised and sent to the Centre for approval. The Centre will convene a meeting in January to approve the DPRs and sanction the funds," Mr Tummala Nageshwar Rao, minister for roads and buildings, said.

The three skyways have been planned along the national and state highways passing through core areas of the city.

The three skyways will connect Rajiv Rahadari (Karimagar highway) from SCB, Balangar to ORR and Uppal to Ghatkesar, stretching over 22 kilometres.

The flyover has been planned from Golnaka to Amberpet on the Warangal Highway at a cost of `300 crore.

Huge traffic blocks are witnessed on these highways with heavy vehicular traffic and congested roads.

The state government had planned to construct these three skyways two years ago to connect the city with the highways directly without touching city outskirts to save

time for motorists travelling to districts. However, the plan remained only on paper.

The property acquisition will commence after the Centre gives its clearance.
