Probe ordered against cop
An inquiry was ordered after T.S. Uma Maheswara Rao, Jawaharnagar inspector, was seen in pictures sitting in front of a woman with his legs on the cot. The inspector went to the woman’s house to inquire about her husband’s murder. Though the incident happened a month ago, the pictures surfaced on Saturday.
The inspector was accused of sexually harassing a woman constable while he was posted at the Abids police station six years ago. He was suspended then. After taking charge at Jawaharnagar three months ago, the inspector had allegedly trespassed into a house of a woman under the pretext of an inquiry and created a ruckus and damaged the furniture in the house.
“I was sitting on a chair which was broken and dictating to her the complaint. To support myself, I rested my foot on the cot and pushed the chair back. All the allegations are baseless,” the inspector said. The Falaknuma police on Saturday arrested a man for posing as a senior scientist from DRDO. The arrested person was identified as Barkatali Maniyar, 42, hailing from Maharashtra.
The arrest was made based on a complaint from Syed Moin Ul Hassan, 42, a resident of Falaknuma, stating that he came in contact with the man via mobile phone. “He got himself introduced as a senior scientist in DRDO. He had shown a document which stated that the Reserve Bank of India had released `1,000 crore to him for his scientific works. On some occasions, he also boasted of his connections with famous underworld dons,” said V. Satyanarayana, DCP (south).
The complainant said that the accused sought his help to release the amount given by the Reserve Bank of India.
“Believing his version, the victim paid him `13 lakh between June 2016 to March 2017 but he did not get any returns as he was promised. The accused also threatened the victim with dire consequences when he asked for his money,” added the DCP.
The accused was nabbed on Saturday and was sent to judicial remand.
