Rumblings over PCC post begins
The New Year started on a dissent for the Telangana Congress with MLC and former MP Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy claiming that either he or his MLA brother Venkata Reddy should be made the PCC chief. This, he said, was to ensure that the Congress returned to power in 2019.
He told newsmen in Bhongir on Monday that they were in touch with the party high command and AICC president Rahul Gandhi for the PCC president post. “If either I or my elder brother Venkata Reddy were given the PCC chief post, we will go on a padayatra across the state and ensure that the party comes back to power,” Rajagopal Reddy said.
Incidentally, Mr Reddy — who was already an MLC, is eyeing the Munugode Assembly seat in Nalgonda district. “Last time I contested as MP from Bhongir and lost with a narrow margin just because Sravanthi Reddy (daughter of late Congress veteran Palvai Govardhan Reddy) contested as a rebel candidate and split Congress votes. This time it won’t happen I have decided to contest from there,” he added.
During the 2014 Assembly elections both Munugode and Devarakonda Assembly segments were given to the CPI as part of the alliance with the Congress. But infighting in the latter saw TRS win the Munugode seat.
Of late, Mr Reddy was seen concentrating on Munugode organising a few meetings much to the discomfort of PCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy who reportedly was keen on allotting the seat to a family member of the departed leader.
