The year 2018 is filled with holidays as it comes with 14 weekends and many festivals falling either on Fridays or Mondays. In the IT sector, talk of holidays has already started doing the rounds with some planning their leaves well in advance while others pondering over what is in store.

Ms B. P. Lakshmi, a team leader with a software company, said, “The year is going to be pretty exciting with long weekends. I may not travel, but at least I hope to keep up the promises made to friends. Most of my colleagues just returned from vacations. So, it certainly is too early for them.”

Unlike the gazetted holidays given by the government, private companies allow about 8-10 holidays per year. This year, some holidays fall on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So, techies may compile Mondays or Fridays with them.

Ms V. Lakshmi Prapurna, another techie, said, “Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas fall on a Tuesday and Ganesh Chaturti is on a Thursday. I am planning to apply for leave on respective Mondays.”

Although some techies have already blocked their iternary, managers said that they are yet to sanction it. Mr G. Naresh, a senior product manager, said, “This year it is certainly going to be tough for managers. A lot of personnel tend to plan their Christmas, Ramzan and Diwali vacations ahead of the time. It is difficult to allow employees long holidays”.
