Blaze at Mumbai court building

Mumbai, Jan. 8: A fire broke out on the third floor of the sessions court building here on Monday morning, an official said, adding that no casualty or injury was reported, though some official records were gutted in the blaze.

This is the fifth fire incident in the city in the last three weeks.

The fire brigade got a call at 7.14 am about the blaze in the court building, located near the campus of the Mumbai University in the southern parts of the city, the official of the Brihanmumb­ai Municipal Corporatio­n’s disaster management unit said. The fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames in the building, which has been accorded a heritage status.

Though the building did not suffer any major damage, some official records and electrical wirings were gutted, the official said. — PTI Crucial documents were feared destroyed as a major fire on Monday gutted the principal’s office and an adjacent record room of the staterun BRD Hospital, the fire department said.

A fire broke out around 10 am at the state-run hospital, infamous for the deaths of scores of children last year allegedly due to shortage of oxygen, officials said.

Six fire tenders were pressed to control the blaze.

No loss of life has been reported.

It took around an hour to control the fire, they said, adding that the cause of the blaze was not known so far.
