It’s 2018, marijuana is finally allowed and sexual harassment finally isn’t. It's going to be a good year — gender disparity and abuse and almost all of Hollywood — both women and men — turned up in black at the red carpet to show their support.

McDormand, 60, addressed the Time’s Up movement in her acceptance speech, saying, “Some of you may know, I keep my politics private, it will be because of a lot of magnificen­t women — and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again — but it was really great to be in this room tonight and to be part of a tectonic shift in our industry's power structure.”

Winfrey, 63, the first African-American woman to be honoured with the annual Cecil B DeMille Award, used her time on stage to deliver a powerful speech about inclusion. And when that

Winfrey, who received a standing ovation twice in her eight-minute speech, said women have not been heard or believed for speaking truth to power but that has to change.

It is also the first ever Golden Globe win for the 34-year-old actor.

“I genuinely did not think I would win as all the websites said I was gonna lose. Also, I am glad that we won this one. To lose two of these in a row would have been a really sh***y moment for me. But this is nice. The only reason my acting is good on the show is because everyone holds me up,” Ansari said in his acceptance speech.

“I want to thank Italy for all the amazing food we ate on season two,” he joked. The actor also thanked his parents for their support.

Ansari is a co-creator of the Netflix series which focuses on his character, Dev, as he navigates relationsh­ips and his growing television career. The show’s second season expanded to tell the backstorie­s of some of Dev's friends, including an episode that focused on the life of ordinary New Yorkers and another that explored the coming out story of a lesbian character played by Lena Waithe.

Ansari was nominated in the same category for the Netflix show The Master of None in 2016.
