The UGC on Monday said the National Eligibility Test (NET) will be held on July 8. The NET is a qualifying exam for teaching positions in higher educational institutions.

According to a short notification from CBSE, the exam will be conducted under a revised scheme this year.

There would be two papers for every subject as opposed to four earlier. Both the papers would carry 100 marks each. The first would be common across streams with 50 questions that are compulsory. The second paper would be based on the subject selected by the candidate.

The notification said the first paper would test the reasoning ability, general awareness and teaching or research aptitude of the candidate. Another change in the upcoming NET is that the age limit for Junior Research Fellowship has been raised to 30 from the present 28.

The detailed notification would be released by the first week of February and online applications would be available between March 6 and April 5. Universities in the state have already begun coaching for NET. MANUU would be conducting classes from March to May for Paper-I and for Paper II in Urdu, English, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, public administration and political science.
