Amrutha Sarathy, who claims to be the biological daughter of the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalith­aa, has got in touch with a city-based DNA expert through her lawyer to have her DNA testing done, once the court allows. In her petition, Ms Sarathy says she was brought up as the daughter of Jayalalith­aa’s late sister Shylaja and after Jayalaitha­a’s demise she came to know that she is Jayalalith­aa’s biological daughter.

M.A. YUSUFF ALI

Richest Indian in the Middle East, M.A. Yusuff Ali, has acquired the iconic Scottish hotel The Caledonian in Edinburgh for $117 million. The acquisitio­n of the 241room property, operated by Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts, is the second deal by Yusuff Ali after he paid $110 million to buy the Great Scotland Yard, former home of the Metropolit­an Police of London.

Virat Kohli became the second Indian captain to score a Test century in South Africa on Day 3 of the second Test in Centurion on Monday., January 15. Ahead of this Test, Sachin Tendulkar was the only Indian captain to score a century in South Africa. Sachin scored 169 runs off 254 balls. Virat, has been celebratin­g his recent centuries quietly, let his emotions out when he reached the three-figure mark in the Test match.

Actor Kamal Haasan will begin his political avatar on February 21 from the house of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam — in Rameswaram island to establish good political culture in Tamil Nadu.In his weekly column in Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, Kamal said the term ‘Dravidian’ should not be restricted to TN alone and wanted other southern states — AP, TS, Karnataka and Kerala — also to be included so that the “chorus” gets heard in Delhi.

Prominent Sikh-American lawyer, Gurbir S Grewal has been nominated to serve as the next Attorney General of the US state of New Jersey. He becomes the state’s 61st attorney general. Grewal has “experience­d hate and intoleranc­e first-hand.” He said he intends to focus on many of the same issues he tackled as Bergen County prosecutor:identifyin­g and treating addiction, improving police-community relations, and promoting social and racial justice.
