SHRC seeks report on police behaviour

-

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has ordered the SPs of Nalgonda and East Godavari districts in AP to submit a report on the alleged police ‘high handedness’ in two different cases before April 17.

In Nalgonda district, the cops were forcing the family of a murder victim to compromise with the perpetrators. Allegedly cops were forcibly evicting the victims from a plot of land and handing it to the opposite party illegally.

Marepally Krishnaiah, a daily wage earner hailing from Mohammadapuram in Nampally mandal in Nalgonda district, claimed that his younger son was attacked by several persons on January 5 and set him ablaze.

When he approached the SP, Nalgonda, he directed them to Circle Inspector Mallapur, who said that DSP Devarakonda was investigating the case. After meeting the SP for the second time, they finally met DSP Devarakonda.

“The DSP said that, the persons who had killed my son also belonged to the same caste and were forcing us to compromise with them and settle the matter,” said Krishnaiah.

In the other case, ‘Dude’ Jyothi, a housewife from Dhavaleshvaram in East Godavari district, claimed that when she approached the Dhavaleswaram police upon being cheated by a woman, they demanded a bribe. When she expressed her helplessness, they abused her and sent her out of the police station. The victims in both cases appealed to the SHRC for justice.
