Modi may talk of early polls in I-Day speech

Speculatio­ns that Lok Sabha elections could be advanced gained momentum as the BJP high command has asked all the state units to prepare for general elections. There are talks in the saffron corridor that Prime Minister Narendra Modi too on Independen­ce Day could give an indication of an early poll from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

The state units, which include that of Delhi, have been asked to step up mass contact programme, strengthen organisati­on and booth-level activities besides highlighti­ng achievemen­ts of the government.

The BJP high command without giving possible time for next general elections asked the state units to gear up for the polls. “Party high command has signalled to start preparatio­n for the Lok Sabha polls without any delay,” said a senior BJP leader.

“Instructio­n was clear — reach out to the people with achievemen­ts of the Modi government, flagship programmes with special focus on pro-poor and profarmer Union budget,” said a senior leader.

The state units have been told to step up mass contact programme, strengthen boothlevel activities and highlight achievemen­ts of the government.

Strengthen­ing the organisati­on at booth level is also key focus of the party to win second term for Modi government.

“State units also directed develop a well-placed structure at the boothlevel,” a leader said.

Sources told this newspaper that government was planning to advance the general election by five to six month and likely to hold it in November-December this year.

“If the government decided to held early election then it will held towards the year end when bigger states like Rajashthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisga­rh too go to polls,” he added.

Party leadership feels that holding Parliament election with Assembly polls will benefit the BJP in overcoming antiincumb­ency of 15 years in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisga­rh.
