Hotel serves wedding guest insect-infested food

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, FEB. 10

A wedding reception at the prestigious Golkonda Spa and Resorts took a rather grim turn when guests turned their attention to the buffet and allegedly saw insects such as cockroaches creeping out of rotis, naans and other flour based items! The hotel authorities have firmly denied these allegations, which they say are being made in order to get compensation.

It was a guest named Shreya Sarda Samdani who described the incident in a Facebook post. The post read: “We were served food with live insects in it. When we raised the issue, we were demanded to inspect the kitchen and we called the police and food inspector who found insects in the dough. The resort manager managed to ‘settle’ the issue with the authorities and they are asking us for the same kind of ‘settlement.”

She also complained that her posts were being taken down after they were reported by the hotel officials.

Sub inspector Naga Reddy of the Narsingi police station says he has not received a written complaint from the guests. “On receiving a phone call, we went to the hotel for inspection and the food security officials were also alerted. The flour which was used was apparently the problem. However, we observed that the hygiene requirements mandated by law were being followed by the hotel.”

He denied allegations of any ‘settlement’ with the hotel.

Pramod Singh, the general manager of Golkonda Resorts says, “We had multiple events that day and the same caterer was used. There were no complaints. We even got in touch with the host,of this particular function who said that they had no problem. We use the best brands for cooking and therefore we have a good reputation.

“We told the host that we were ready to lower the rates if he wanted, but to not tarnish our image with false news, but that cannot be called as 'settling'.” He alleged that the host had wanted to have another caterer but that was not allowed and that may be the reason for the false allegations.
