POLICE BOOK 105 FOR DRUNK DRIVING

- DC CORRESPONDENT

A special drive against drunk driving was conducted at seven locations in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills on Saturday night. The traffic police booked 105 drunk driving cases and seized 42 cars, 61 bikes, a tractor and an autorickshaw. All offenders were to be produced in court and counselled, police said. In one case, a drunk woman, P. Priyanka, driving a Mercedes-Benz, created nuisance and misbehaved with the police when they tried to seize her vehicle. The traffic police registered a case against her and seized the vehicle bearing no. TS07FV3737. Her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 94 mg.

Jubilee hills traffic inspector P. Balavanthaiah said, “Drunk drivers do not cooperate with us as they do not want to be seen on TV as the incident is recorded by videographers of several TV channels.

“The woman even attacked a cameraman of a Telugu channel. This makes our task difficult. We recovered liquor bottles from her car. We request TV channels to look at privacy concerns and let us perform our duty during such drives. Offenders cause a lot of nuisance because of their presence.”
