Clerics take social media route now

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board will be soon appointing state and districtwise muftis and IT professionals across the country in its attempt to counter the anti-Sharia and antiIslamic campaigns and other misconceptions.

The AIMPLB decision comes following widespread use of social media to target the Islamic laws by select groups.

“Confusion prevails whenever any point relating to the Islamic law or religion generally comes into the public domain. Our social media teams will counter the propaganda and give a clear message,” explained Maulana Umrain Mahfooz Rahmani, Secretary, AIMPLB.

The teams will comprise qualified persons from the Islamic seminaries and IT professionals who are well versed with social media tools. Social media tools include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube apart from telegram and Whatsapp which will be used to reach out to the public.

“Every district will have a team and they will coordinate with the state level teams. Only authentic information and short videos on various subjects and topics will be uploaded. It will be done only after a highlevel committee of scholars clear the content,” Maulana Umrain added.

Maulana Umrain, explained that they want to give more emphasis to topics which the Muslim community lacks awareness about. It could be triple talaq, the Ayodhya dispute, Haj-related doubts or any other topics related to religion where the board feels it should intervene.

He also said that the local committees will be strengthened across the country to take up various campaigns.

Maulana Umrain said that all those handling the social media units will be rendering their services voluntarily.

He expressed confidence in finding suitable professional volunteers to offer their services without any charges during their leisure hours.
