In what doctors said was no less a miracle, a pregnant woman who was critically injured during the ongoing armed standoff at Sunjwan Army station in Jammu on Sunday delivered a baby girl following a Caesarean.

The officials said wife of rifleman, Nazir Ahmed, had received a bullet wound in her lower back in the militant firing. Nazir was also injured in the firing.

“The 35-week pregnant lady was immediately evacuated and rushed to a military hospital where the doctors attended to her bullet injury and subsequently a C section was performed on her,” said a defence spokesman.

Both the mother and the child are said to be safe and healthy, the spokesman added.

The Army officials said that the woman, along with her family, had tried to take shelter during the attack, but became a victim to the bullets fired by the militants.
