A group of Bajrang Dal activists went berserk at a store selling Valentine’s Day merchandise in KPHB and damaged balloons. The group also threatened the owner and said other materials in the store will also be damaged if he did not pull down the merchandise and remove the decorations.

Meanwhile, scores of activists from the Bajrang Dal and other outfits staged protests and burnt effigies at different parts of the city, protesting Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Chalapalli Venkata Dinesh , 28, a customer in Shopper’s Stop located at Manjeera Mall in KPHB lodged a complaint with the police stating that on Wednesday around 2.15 pm, a group of youngsters claiming to be activists of the Bajrang Dal barged into his store and damaged a heart shaped balloon which was kept at the entrance and also warned him to remove the decoration immediately.

“After damaging the balloon completely, they warned me to remove the decoration and if it was not removed, they threatened to come in the evening and damage other things in the store,” Mr Dinesh told the cops.

Based on his complaint, KPHB police registered a case under various sections of IPC and started a probe.

Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal activists staged protests at LB Nagar, Malakpet, Saroornagar, Abids and other areas. They said that they were not against people falling in love or lovers, but they were against the tradition of following western culture and celebrating Valentine’s Day.

“We have been conducting awareness programmes requesting people to stay away from such celebrations,” a Bajrang Dal activist said.
