Koti college to be converted into TS Women’s University

Koti Women’s College will be known as Telangana Women’s University from the next academic year onwards.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari says that the move has been approved by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Mr Srihari paid a surprise visit to the college on Thursday. During his visit, he said, “Koti Women’s College has all the facilities to be converted to a university. The authorities concerned are given a month’s time to deliver a report on the infrastructure and facilities required for the change to be made.”

At present, there are 42 undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at Koti Women’s College. The college received `37 crore of the `200 crore allocated by the CM to Osmania University on the occasion of its golden jubilee. The repair of the college buildings is underway. The authorities will provide any additional facilities needed, on the basis of the report.

In the erstwhile state of united Andhra Pradesh, Padmavathi Women’s University was the only women’s university; however, it went to Andhra Pradesh at the time of state bifurcation. Since then, Telangana has been lacking a women’s university. This was recently brought to the attention of Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.

On Thursday, Mr Srihari examined all the facilities at the college. He spoke to students and asked them about the quality of teaching and education provided by the college.

The minister was accompanied by Naveen Mittal, the commissioner of Higher Education, Osmania University vice-chancellor S. Ramachandram, OU Registrar Gopal Reddy, and principal of Koti Women’s College Prashanta Athma, college officials, and the staff.
