Film personalities visit Anil Kapoor’s home
Mumbai, Feb. 26: Shocked celebrities and fans of first female superstar, Sridevi, flocked to the residence of her brother-inlaw Anil Kapoor, as they tried to come to grips with the sudden death of the versatile actor who had ruled over hearts and Indian cinema for decades.
Mourners gathered at the Kapoor bungalow, where Sridevi and her husband Boney Kapoor’s daughters, Khushi and Jhanvi, have been staying since on Sunday. Anil Kapoor is Boney Kapoor's younger brother.
Among those who visited the Kapoors to express their grief were filmmakers Farah Khan, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and others such as Resul Pookutty, Saroj Khan and Honey Irani.
Shekhar Kapur, who directed Sridevi in the megahit, Mr India, was also present, as were actors Tabu, Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Akshara, Shruti Haasan, Ameesha Patel, Divya Dutta and Sara Ali Khan.
Actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh were among the visitors.
Sridevi, who had cast a spell on filmgoers with her mesmerising performances in films such as Himmatwala, Chandni, Sadma, Nagina Chaalbaaz, Dubai/Mumbai, Feb. 26: As anxious crowds milled around her Mumbai home and stars visited the family to pay their condolences, a Dubai paper on Monday reported that Bollywood superstar Sridevi was getting ready for dinner with husband Boney Kapoor when she suffered a ‘cardiac arrest’.
Boney and Sridevi, 54, were in Dubai to attend nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding.
While most of the extended family as well as Boney and younger daughter Khushi had returned, Sridevi decided to stay back. The elder daughter, Jahnvi, was in Mumbai to complete a shooting schedule.
According to the newspaper, on Saturday, Boney flew back to Dubai to surprise his wife with a dinner, the paper reported.
He reached the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel around 5.30pm (Dubai time) and woke her up and they chatted for about 15 minutes, the report said.
Sridevi then went to the bathroom to get ready. When she didn’t come out for 15 minutes, Boney knocked on the door. He did not get any response and forced open the door, to find her lying motionless in the bathtub that was full of water.
“He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called a friend. After that, he informed the police at 9 pm,” Khaleej Times quoted a source as saying. The police and paramedics rushed to the site, but she was pronounced dead. — PTI
