To impress their political bosses, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation sent the proposals of six flyovers under Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) without mentioning financial support of the state government, in the process misleading citizens.

Citing this, the proposals have been pending with the government for several months. The civic body has to show the financial support for every infrastructure project in the city, but in order to show that the projects are progressing at a brisk pace, it has sent proposals without any financial basis, resulting in the delay of skyway construction

and never-ending traffic woes. In the process, the corporation has halted projects worth `3,000 crore.

According to highly placed sources in the corporation, without mentioning the financial assistance for any project, the finance department cannot give clearance and process the file to the municipal administration and the urban development department. Sources also claimed that the corporation has about ten proposals regarding the construction of sky ways and multi-grade separators under SRDP. The corporation officials, to pass the buck to the finance department, has deliberately been sending the proposals to put return pressure on the government.

When queried about the same subject, a senior GHMC official on condition of anonymity said that the SRDP proposals sent to the finance department has got clearance from the civic body committee. However, the official said that the corporation did not mention under which financial head the projects will be executed. He said there is a dedicated person to peruse the files in the finance department on a daily basis.

The proposed flyovers include Nalgonda crossroads-IS Sadan, which would be constructed at an estimated cost of `523.37 crore, Nanalnagar and Rethibowli junctions with `170 crore and several other flyovers, which would cost about `3,000 crore.

Meanwhile, the civic body will complete the SRDP phase I in five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions — KBR Park Entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn (Road No. 12), Film Nagar, Road No. 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No. 10 Junction).
