NOW, DESAM SEEKS SPECIAL STATUS FOR AP

- DC CORRESPONDENT

The Telugu Desam (TD) YSR Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Congress members stalled proceedings in both houses of Parliament for the second day on Tuesday.

Surprisingly, TD members also demanded special status for AP on Tuesday and exhibited placards demanding special status. Till Monday, TD members had demanded implementation of assurances given to AP in the AP Reorganisation Act but did not ask for special status.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day at 11.30 am on Tuesday after the TD, TRS and YSRC members disrupted the proceedings. TD MPs demanded the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act. They gave an adjournment motion demanding discussion on the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act by the central government.

The TRS MPs are demanding increase in the reservation quota for Scheduled Tribes and Muslims. YSRC MPs are demanding that the Centre grant special category status to AP.

Rajya Sabha proceedings too were stalled by the TD, TRS and Congress MPs on Tuesday. The House was adjourned several times. TD MPs have given an adjournment motion demanding discussion on the implementation of the AP Reorganisation Act.

Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House till 11.30 am. When the members reassembled, MPs again trooped into the Well of the House, raised slogans, carried placards and would not allow the House to conduct business. This prompted Mr Naidu to say, “I am not happy. I don’t approve of this sort of tactics, this is proving the public impression that Parliament is not conducting itself in a dignified manner.” He adjourned the house till 2 pm.

While the TD and Congress MPs demanded the implementation of the special package and special category status to AP respectively, MPs from TN raised demands related to the Cauvery water issue, and the Trinamool Congress and others raised questions about the PNB fraud.
