VAKAPALLI GANGRAPE: VICTIMS TOLD TO CHOOSE 3 ADVOCATES FROM PANEL

The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday asked the victims of Vakapalli gang rape to choose the names of three advocates by Friday, from the 7-member panel prepared by the Registrar-General of the High Court. They would then direct the AP government to appoint one among the three as Special Public Prosecutor to try their case before the trial court.

A division bench comprising C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice G. Shyam Prasad was dealing with the appeal by the AP government and accused the greyhound constables for challenging the order of the single judge in directing the government to appoint advocate Mr P. Trinadha Rao as Special Prosecutor to indict the 13 greyhound personnel accused in the gang rape case.

To resolve the stalemate with regard to the appointment of a special public prosecutor to conduct the trial on behalf of the Vakapalli gang rape victims before the trial court at Visakhapatnam, the bench, on Feb 22, directed the its registrar-general to prepare a panel of 6 senior advocates, three each from AP and Telangana, and to appoint one among them as special public prosecutor.

The bench asked Ms Vasudha Nagraj, counsel appearing for the victims to suggest three names among the panel indicating the priority, by Friday so that it could pass the appropriate orders and postpone the case to Friday.
