Drones too get safety cover

-

Officials of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) were watching a YouTube video of a boy playing with a ball-shaped thing against the wall and ended up designing a drone which can hover in closed spaces. Drones are often known to fly in open spaces and fall down or cannot go to the nook and corner of the wall.

CSIR has indigenously developed a VTOL MAV called searcher which will bounce back and is capable of going in closed spaces. The drone was displayed at the CSIR stall.

Searcher with an endurance of ten minutes can check for any damages in roof-top. It can go to closer to wall and und-erstand things. It is capable of bringing information wirelessly and is capable of making decisions.

Mr Siva Subba Rao Patange, principal scientist at CSIR, said “We are using searcher for structural testing chimneys and checking in mines in Dhanbad. CMRI Durgapur is using this for mining purpose. Even before a person enters, it will give a clear picture. Furthermore gas sensors can be installed on the drone to test strengthen of gases such as neon, which is dangerous to humans.”

CSIR is planning to give the capability of rolling to the searcher so that it can be used in bomb detection.

CSIR has developed Mini Hybrid VTOL UAV using vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) technology.

With an endurance of 45 minutes, it can be used in agriculture and insurance surveillance.
