In a first, a Hindu Dalit woman was elected to the Senate, the upper house of Pakistani parliament. Krishna Kumari Kolhi, 39, from Thar is a member of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). She won the election for the reserved seat for women from Sindh province. Known as Kishoo bai by her parents and friends for her fiery temper and activism, Kolhi said she knew how much work needed to be done for the oppressed and poor in the interior areas.
