HSPA RAGE OVER EXTENSION GRANT

OTHER

-

The education department of Telangana has once again brought down the wrath of parents’ associations across the city after releasing a notice on Saturday stating that the Prof. Tirupathi Rao Committee has been granted an extension of 3 months. The present final date given to the committee is June 19. Since the formation of the committee on March 21, 2017, this latest extension is the eighth one the committee has been granted.

The continued extensions have caused a lot of outrage and protests among parents in the city. However, many of them were placated when the department of education cited that action would be taken at the earliest.

Ashish Naredi, executive member of Hyderabad Schools Parents’ Association says, “It’s a joke now. We, as parents, have been waiting for concrete action from the government when it comes to regulating school fees, hoping for something to happen for at least this academic year. But this committee has proved to be incompetent and while they have already delayed the report for 1 year, have now been granted an additional 3 months.”

Parents have also claimed that the committee has shown no moral fibre when it comes to standing up to the pressure from the powerful private school lobby, and this is why parents’ associations around the city will boycott the committee henceforth.

Despite the Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari questioning the delay of the report in December and assuring parents that they will receive good news regarding the fee regulation by Sankranti, no promises have been delivered on and parents will have to spend more money for fees this academic year.

Maya Suresh, a parent, says, "It is no surprise that we have been lied to again. Education has truly become a business.”
