SCIENCE SHOULD BE MADE A MOVEMENT: V-P

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Science has to be made as a movement and in his role as Vice-President, Mr Venkaiah Naidu said he wants to meet students and visit as many universities as possible to propagate this belief.

Addressing the scientific fraternity at CSIR-NGRI in Hyderabad on Thursday, he said that even though the Speaker was insisting on issues of water and sanitation to be discussed in the ongoing Parliament session, they could not be taken up due to various other reasons.

“Swacch Bharat, Make-InIndia are not Prime Minister Modi’s programmes but are national programmes,” said Mr Naidu and added, “Science and technology are an integral part of our culture. People term it as blind belief or superstitions, but whatever our forefathers had said were rooted in scientific knowledge. Nature and culture have to be combined for a better future.”

Pointing out the need to step up funding for research, he called upon FICCI and CII to identify areas and set up corpus fund accordingly. The Vice-President asked researchers to increase the number of patents, research publications and international journals. Mr Naidu also said that science was the one and only medium which would produce solutions to future problems of mankind. He urged CSIRNGRI to popularise science amongst people, specially students. Education is not just for employment but for enlightenment, enhancement and empowerment, the VicePresident Mr Venkiah Naidu stressed.
