Airline slammed for ‘lackadaisical attitude’

SpiceJet has been ordered, by the consumer forum to compensate Pranay Pasari, a 24-year-old resident of Ameerpet, for shoddy service and for the loss of his baggage.

Mr Pasari filed a complaint with the forum stating that he boarded SpiceJet flight SG 124 at 8.10 am on November 1, 2016, after checking in one item of baggage. When he landed in Delhi at 11 am, he could not spot his baggage on the carousel.

He approached the officials on duty at the airport, but they said that they couldn’t help him and told him to file a baggage irregularity report. When he did so, he was asked to contact the officials after one week.

However, despite repeated phone calls, he was not given any information about his baggage. After nearly three months of trying, he finally sent the company a legal notice on January 21, stating that he was greatly troubled by the “lackadaisical attitude” of the airlines.

The forum ruled in favour of the complainant and asked SpiceJet to pay Mr Pasari `30,000 along with an additional `5,000 as compensation and `5,000 towards costs.

The complainant stated that he had been travelling to Delhi for staying there for a long period, for his MBA at IIM Delhi, and so his baggage contained expensive items.

CONSUMER FORUM ruled in favour of the complainant and asked SpiceJet to pay Pranay Pasari `30,000 along with an additional `5,000 as compensation and `5,000 towards costs.
