Hyderabad: The early bird tax rebate scheme will come into effect on April 6. Taxpayers will receive a five percent tax rebate on their property tax dues for 201819 if they make payments within the month of April. Authorities of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have made it clear that the rebate will only be applicable to the current year’s dues, not arrears. GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said that the aim of the early bird scheme is to encourage citizens to clear their property tax dues in advance. He said that it could be availed by those making payments for the entire year. Mr Reddy thanked the taxpayers who had promptly paid property taxes and other taxes to the GHMC. He said that the corporation had already collected `121.07 crore in the form of property taxes, `121 crore through building permissions and `167 crores through the LRS. He appealed to all property tax-payers to avail of the rebate on property tax under the early bird scheme. The Commissioner said that the early bird Scheme has already amended the scheme by the government in the Act in the year 2013 that 5 per cent rebate shall be given to the property tax payers who cleared entire current year tax in April month itself. The demand generation for the year 2018 and 19 is under progress at CGG. The amount collected in form of property tax by the GHMC under the early bird scheme has increased year after year.
