MODI’S GIMMICK

-

I fully agree with MIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fasting plan (Modi’s fast a

cheap trick: MIM, April 12). He is right to point out that Modi should fast for the thousands of farmers who were forced to commit suicide due to debts and the Dalits who are who continue to face atrocities at the hands of the upper castes. As Mr. Owaisi demanded, the PM and his party must make clear their stand on the kidnap, drugging, rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in J&K, instead of resorting to such low class political games to divert public’s attention. P.V. Tirumala Rao Hyderabad Mr Modi’s move to observe a day of fast is not only very cheap, but also a disgrace to the democracy. Wastage of the precious time of the Parliament speaks a lot about the political indiscipline that prevails in the country. The Supreme Court should frame some guidelines to prevent the MPs from treating Parliament like a fish market. Nirmala Ramachandran Secunderabad It seems our leading politicians are running a contest of fasting. What they need to understand is that fasting will not bring any solution to the problems at hand. What is expected of them is fruitful dialogues and well thought out steps towards solving the issues the nation is facing. All the rest will be an eyewash. Shashidhar Vuppala Hyderabad The Prime Minister observing fast is not a crime. Hyderabad MIM MP Owaisi calling Modi’s fast a “cheap trick” is inappropriate. Every politician makes promises before elections but fulfils only few. Mr Modi is Prime Minister only for the past four years but Mr Owaisi is a senior Hyderabad MP. Has he fulfilled all promises he made to the people of the old city? Competition between parties is common but targeting a particular person for simple reasons is not appropriate.
