36K sop cheques to be reprinted
Large-scale errors have been detected on the cheques to be distributed to farmers from April 19 to provide `4,000 per acre financial assistance under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
Over 23 lakh cheques to distribute `1,630 crore have already been printed and handed over to the agriculture department for disbursement.
Officials took up verification of cheques which revealed errors on nearly 36,000 cheques.
Spelling mistakes pertaining to names of farmers, places, cheques issued in the name of Gods, irrigation projects, etc, were detected exposing the shoddy work that was done in the recent land records purification drive.
The cheques were printed as per the data based on purified revenue land records. On some cheques even the year — 2018 — was wrongly printed as 2081.
These cheques were cancelled and sent for reprinting.
Reprinting of 36,000 cheques will cause a loss of over `50 lakh to state exchequer.
The government is spending `140 to print each cheque and order has been placed for 60 lakh cheques. Reprinting of 36,000 cheques will cause loss of over `50 lakh to the state exchequer.
Temples across the state own thousands of acres and government registered these lands in the names of presiding deities to prevent illegal transactions of these lands.
Subsequent state governments over the years acquired lakhs of acres for construction of irrigation projects. These lands were registered on the name of irrigation projects.
However, the revenue department ignored deleting the data of such lands existing in the name of Gods and irrigation projects.
Large-scale errors have been detected on the cheques to be distributed to farmers from April 19 to provide `4,000 per acre financial assistance under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
It submitted all such land records data to agriculture department for disbursement of `4,000 per acre though no agriculture is being done on such lands. The agriculture department too failed to verify this data before sending it to the banks for printing of cheques.
The banks printed cheques accordingly, which will not serve any purpose now.
Meanwhile, uncertainty prevails over the launch of distribution of cheques.
While Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao earlier announced that it will be launched on April 19, officials doubt this as there is no confimation for CM’s Office so far.
The CM wants distribution of new electronic pattadar passbooks to all land owners across the state along with distribution of cheques. However, only 5 lakh e-pattadar passbooks have been printed.
If the CM is keen on taking up simulataneous distribution, the cheque distribution would be postponed to May.
One more argument doing the rounds is CM, ministers and ruling party leaders are busy with making arrangements for TRS plenary meeting on April 27 and for this reason the cheque distribution would be taken up after this meeting.
