Brace yourself for more heat

Hyderabad: A severe heat wave warning has been announced for Telangana districts on April 22, 23 and 24. The day temperatur­es are likely to be around 42 to 44 degrees in most parts of the State for the next 3 days. The majority of the districts in TS are already touching 40 degrees but with the heat wave warning, the temperatur­es are expected to rise further.

A warning of severe heat wave has been issued for several Telangana districts on April 22, 23 and 24, 2018. The day temperatur­es are likely to be between 42°C and 44°C in most parts of the State for the next three days.

It may be noted that the temperatur­e in majority of the districts in TS are already touching 40°C but once the heat wave sets in, it is expected to rise another two to three degrees.

The State Government has directed the district collectors to implement the heat wave action plan that includes provision for drinking water at public junctions, distributi­on of packets of ORS and the improvemen­t of medical facilities at urban government hospitals.

The weather monitoring authoritie­s said, “A heatwave is a period of abnormally high atmospheri­c temperatur­es, which can lead to physiologi­cal stress and even death.

World Meteorolog­ical Organisati­on defines a heatwave as five or more consecutiv­e days of high heat during which the daily maximum temperatur­e exceeds the average maximum temperatur­e by 5°C.”

Meanwhile, Saturday saw a rise in mercury levels across several districts, the highest of 43°C was recorded at Ramagundam, Nizamabad and Adilabad. Hyderabad stood at 40.4°C.

The city forecast for Sunday is partly cloudy sky with the possibilit­y of thunder lightning. The day and night temperatur­es are expected to be around 41 and 27 degrees respective­ly.
