Lakshminarayana may quit BJP

-

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a video conference with AP BJP leaders on Sunday, BJP leader and former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana simultaneously organised a meeting with his associates and long-time followers in Guntur to discuss about his future course of action. The development has led to a debate within the party circles, and senior leaders have expressed surprise over Mr Kanna's moves.

Explaining the measures the Centre has initiated to support the state of Andhra Pradesh the Prime Minister said that Swaminathan Committee recommendations would be implemented shortly. He also enquired about the party activities in Andhra Pradesh.

On the other hand rumours are that he is likely to leave.

He had a long meeting with his close associates and people from his constituency, Pedakurapadu, on Sunday. It is learnt that YSRC leaders are in touch with him.

Mr Lakshminarayana, known for his strong vocal skills, has made his mark in BJP and also got recognition on par with national leaders. It is believed that Mr. Kanna had anticipated that he would be offered the post of state BJP chief after the resignation of Mr Kambhampati Haribabu.

However, Somu Veerraju became the choice of the high command, since he has been serving the RSS for a long period.

As a policy decision, party wants an RSS man to be the state party chief.
