Strong winds halt Metro for 30 mins

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Due to strong winds across the city, an advertisement flex banner fell on Hyderabad Metro electricity wires causing disruption of services for more than 30 minutes on Wednesday. Commuters from Ameerpet to Nagole were left stranded at the respective metros, following this snag that took place at Begumpet station.

This is the first time that metro has been halted for such a long duration since its inception. This incident occurred about ten days after HMR announced increased frequency and speed of Metro rail services.

Metro train commuters were not given any information regarding the delay. The LED monitor only mentioned, “There is a small delay and the inconvenience is regretted.” While soon the crowd from Miyapur to Ameerpet gathered at the station, huge number of commuters were left without any information at Ameerpet station.

Furthermore, the announcements were feeble and most of the commuters were not aware of the delay. When passengers reached out to the official at the station, they were told, “The train is at Begumpet station and will certainly arrive. Due to a technical snag at the station there is a delay.”

A disgruntled commuter at the customer service desk in Ameerpet station sought refund for the ticket for the remaining part of the journey, as she couldn’t complete her trip.
