13.3L students to appear for NEET

On Sunday, about 13.3 lakh students will take the NEET examination in 11 languages for 66,000 medical and dental seats, i.e. one seat for every 20 students who are vying for it. Strict rules have been enforced for the exam with allowances being made only for Sikh students who can wear their turbans to the examination hall.

The decision was made after a letter was sent to the MHRD to allow baptised Sikh students to appear for the exam with their Kara and Kirpan, which have been allowed by the the Delhi High Court also, provided they reach the examination centre one hour before the exam for security checks.

The number of candidates has increased from 11.5 lakh in 2017.

NEET 2018 gained a lot of attention due to strict rules that stated that no brooches, pendants, shoes, belts, flowers, caps, sarees or any other items would be allowed, to ensure that there was no misconduct or malpractice during the examination. Pens would be provided at the examination centre itself.

The examination will be of an objective type and the results will be declared on June 5.
