TS to redefine who are ‘locals’

- L. VENKAT RAM REDDY I DC

■ THE CABINET subcommittee, set up by the CM, has recommended that a “local” is someone who has studied continuously for four years from Class I to VII in the state.

The terms ‘local’ and ‘nonlocal’ are all set to be redefined in Telangana state for reservations in employment and education.

The Cabinet sub-committee constituted by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to reorganise the zonal system in the wake of bifurcation of AP and creation of 21 new districts has recommended that a “local” is someone who has studied continuously for four years from Class I to VII in the state.

As of now, the four years of continuous study from Class IV to X is being considered to accord local status.

This is to ensure that only natives of Telangana state get the maximum benefit of quotas in education and employment as it is believed that people from Andhra Pradesh shift their children to Hyderabad for education after Class VII.

Besides, Telangana state currently has only two zones, which were made in undivided AP, to cover the ten undivided districts.

The Cabinet sub committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari has recommended increase in zones to four to cover the 31 districts.

Hyderabad will no longer be a free zone for police recruitments but it will be part of Zone 3 and locals will get priority in government employment.

Pressure is growing on the TTD to display the ancient ornaments belonging to the Srikrishnadevaraya era that were donated to the Tirumala temple.

The Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) expressed some doubts about the safety of the ornaments a mongh ago. It said that the jewellery was usually seen during the Garuda Seva, but had been missing from view over the last few years.

TTD’s Pradhana Archaka, Dr A.V. Ramana Deekshitulu, had also alleged that the jewels were not seen for many days, a day before the board decided to retire him.

Speaking to this newspaper, RPS convener P. Naveen Kumar said the TTD should reveal the report submitted regarding a missing diamond, that was prepared by the Chief Vigilance & Security Officer (CV&SO) in 2001.
