JEE, TSEamcet counselling clash

-

The clash in counselling schedule of Telangana Eamcet and JEE could make things difficult for students. According to the schedule, JEE admissions will start around the second week of June and the first two rounds will end in the first week of July, but TSEamcet is releasing a schedule of starting the counselling option entry around May 28 for the first phase of counselling.

The mismatch in the counselling dates will result in a lot of issues for the student community because Eamcet counselling happens first, due to which many of these JEE qualified students will participate and take seats in government and top private colleges though there is a high possibility that they will also get a seat in IITs or NITs.

This denies opportunity to other students who would have gotten these seats. Afterwards these students will vacate these seats to join IITs or NITs which results in denial of seats to deserving students. Meritorious deserving students will miss an opportunity due to mismatching counselling dates.

Dr Sreenivas N Bhupalam, vice-president, All India Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutions, said, “Normally students that do well in the JEE Mains and Advanced also secure top ranks in TSEamcet. This year TSEamcet counselling has been scheduled before the JEE and many of these JEE qualified students will participate in TSEamcet because it is first and to take seats in government and top private colleges though there is high certainty that they will get a seat in IIT or NIT.

He adds, “Later in JEE 1st or 2nd round counselling these students are allotted seats in IIT/NITs and vacate TSEamcet seats, resulting in a vacant seat at much later part of the TSEamcet counselling process by then the other merit students would have been allotted other colleges, they would have reported and paid any differential fee required.

“However, the out of sequence and mismatch in counselling dates between JEE and TSEamcet is leading to denial of admission in the best institution and branch based on their TSEamcet rank. So to minimise this impact, a sequence in the order of at least 2 or 3 rounds of JEE Admissions must be completed first, and then TSEamcet can start first Phase because by then most of the students that wanted to join IITs and NITs would have joined thus providing transparency to TSEamcet students/parents.
