Even as cops requested people to not believe social media rumours about interstate gangs killing people and stealing their vital parts, one unidentified persons was beaten up severely by residents of Maal Cheruvu tanda under Akkannapet Police limits in Siddipet.

Cops swung into action and rescued the person only to find that he was mentally unsound. Cops also found that he had had no food for three days and gave him food and clothing. He was later admitted to a home. The incident comes a day after TS DGP M. Mahender Reddy appealed to citizens to not believe rumours on social media and warned that strict action will be taken against those who spread such rumours. Villagers felt something suspicious about him and stopped him to inquire his details. When he could not speak up, they mistook him to be a member of an interstate gang. Bibinagar police arrested six persons on Thursday for the alleged lynching of a person in Jiyapally on Tuesday, following rumours of gangs of kidnappers and dacoits making the rounds of different villages.

The police also named another 12 persons for the murder, based on a complaint of Mr Nimmala Narsimha Goud, 50, brother of the victim Nimmala Balakrishna.
